The Corona Discharge Checker MK-720 detects only the specific frequency of discharge, making it unaffected by noise. It can detect insulation deterioration in cables, cable terminals, transformers, and more. Due to ultrasonic discharge sound detection, it allows for non-contact measurement while the system is live. When corona discharge occurs due to insulation deterioration in AC power supply equipment, ultrasonic waves are generated across a wide frequency range. These ultrasonic waves vary in strength in sync with the power supply phase, so when the detected sound is demodulated and frequency analyzed, the component at twice the power supply frequency appears prominently. This device can detect discharge without being influenced by sounds other than discharge by detecting the strength of this twice power supply frequency component.
